Seward Screw has Big Plans for Machine
By ADAM LOWENSTEIN, Rockford Register Star
SEWARD -- It took a 78-wheel, 135-foot-long trailer to bring the 105-ton machine to Seward Screw Products. Known as a coldforming machine, the 16.5 foot tall unit will make metal parts up to 7 inches long and an inch and a quarter in diameter by exerting thousands of pounds of pressure on coiled metal wire.
A supervisor for Barnhart Crane & Rigging Co. steers a 78-wheel transport trailer Monday carrying a cold former into a doorway at Seward Screw Products
in Seward. Barnhart, of Memphis, brought the machine on its three-week journey to the plant from Chicago.
